Grapes of Wrath

The Grapes of Wrath is a film adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel of the same name. The film was made in 1940 and was directed by John Ford. Its set in 1930’s Oklahoma during the great depression. The film stars Henry Fonda as Tom Joad, a man recently let out on parole for manslaughter. He reunites with his family who has recently lost their farm due to the depression. The family packs up their belongings and travels across Highway 66 to get to California. Along their journey we see the hardships they face including family members deaths & trying to find job opportunities.
To me this film was, so far, the most enjoyable one we have watched in the class so far. It had a simple story and wasn’t so exciting but I was drawn in by the characters and the storyline. This film has the most realistic and relatable plot out of all of the films we have seen this far. A story like that always catches the attention of the viewers because they become so caught up with the characters. Another reason for this is the actor’s performances. A good majority of the ensemble cast was given a great amount of screen time, just enough for the audience to see their depth and development.
